The overall project involves the construction of a 121km dual carriageway through mountainous terrain between Tehran and Chalous on the coast of the Caspian Sea. The section under construction is Lot 1, the southern most section which extends 32km north of Tehran. The terrain is extremely mountainous requiring the construction of many tunnels, culverts and bridge structures. The site is located immediately to the north of Tehran. The site office is an easy commute from the city.
The Contractor is the STA Chinese Group who have been employed on a design and build basis.
Halcrow has been employed to provide a review of the contractors design, and to supervise construction. Works originally started in 2008 and the contract duration is expected to be around 3 years
The principal function of this position is as the Resident Engineer (Tunnels) The position reports to the Chief Resident Engineer
The Resident Engineer (Tunnels) will report to the Chief Resident Engineer and will be required to proactively control and manage the overall supervision of the construction of the tunnel package of this Design & Build highway project, taking accountability for the written administration of the Contract and for the overall delivery, co-ordination and quality of tunnel works.
He will ensure that appropriate written notices, submissions, records, reviews etc are developed in unity and signed off at the appropriate written time.
The duties set out under the contract are extensive, and the assignee will find himself involved deeply in many aspects of the construction process: design liaison, reviewing the quality of work, assessing/advising on liability in relation to contractual claims, or assessing values of work done and problem solving.
Duties required to administer the contact will be agreed with the Chief Resident Engineer.

A university degree is essential which would be in Civil Engineering, Mining or Geotechnics, or other recognised relevant field.
Membership/accreditation of an appropriate professional institution is considered advantageous, but not essential.
